Concrete Texture

After much consideration i figured this thread could be a jump off point for many variations and to keep our forum clean i think it would be best to post variations on this tutorial here thus the name community tutorial. Thanks for taking time to look at the simple tutorial and i am looking forward to your variations.
plugins needed:
Displacement by MadJik (part of his plugin pack)

Today we are going to be making this
Image
Step 1:
Open a new document at 800 x 600.
Step 2:
Select orange for your primary color. Render clouds at these settings in the picture below.
Image
Step 3:
Go to effects/color/solarize
Step 4:
go to adjustments/ black and white.
Step 5:
Go to effects/ distort/ displacement and use the settings in the picture below.
Image
Step 6:
Go to effects/ stylize/ relief and use these settings in the picture below.
Image

There you go, So simple yet brilliant. Always remember you can toy with the brightness and other settings to come up with different outcomes.
Another tut i decided to port from the main forums enjoy :D

Here is my attempt. I turned it into a brick wall.
Image

These are the steps I took.
1. Follow Chad's tute but run the clouds at scale 250 & roughness at 0.77 same as Chad's.
2. New layer - Run Clouds with red & orange at the same settings.
3. Set layer blend mode to Colour Burn.
4. New layer - run bricks at the following settings: Width: 200, Height: 93.24 Mortar Width 13.73, Brick Alpha: 255, Mortar Alpha: 214.
5. Select mortar with magic wand (default tolerance of 50). Invert selection.
6. Run Bevel at 20. Colour for highlight R: 193, G: 45, B: 0, & shadow just black.
7. Invert selection & run clouds at minimum scale (I don't remember exactly).
8. Ctrl + Shift + G to make black & white.
9. Run crystalise, platelet, size: 5 Random: 100
10. Gaussian Blur at 2.

Please note: I always use a canvas size 4 times more than I want the finished product to be.

Chad, you may want to rewrite this & perhaps add screenshots? Your tute was so well written...

Short, clear with excellent result, just list the plugins in the beginning.
@ barbieq25, that is so nice wall of bricks. :P
I made this few months ago, I think I used something similar to this, but as I remember I didn't use Solarize plugin, this is good to know, I have this plugin but never used it :) :

By the way, do you have any technique on cracked floor ( dry mud)? I needed it lately but never satisfied with any result that I have achieved.

Sargon, that vase was the beginning of what got me thinking about the Martian Chronicles...I think I even made a comment about how it would look in an alien's house or something to that effect. See the postcards are all your fault...first the vase & then the splinter thing (must try that tute again & not get side tracked!) You are a wonderful inspiration.

Usually I like colour but there is somthing about this image that just does it for me.

Brick wall features in the next Postcard from Mars...

Seems to leave a row of dead pixels at the top, but other than that, great effect!

Have a nice day,

Welshy, you are so funny! I love the play on words nearly as much as I love the rusty look of the exhaust. Very nicely done.
