Has anyone tried making a DNA helix with ribbon style spiral and rod style connectors? I always have to resort to modding a picture.

Looking at some of you work, I believe you know this plugin.

Shape 3d & Shape 3d, both ribbon & rod can be done with shape3d's cylinder mode.

Yeah, that'll probably work. It would take a while though.

Should be pretty quick. If my google image search is showing correctly to me what RenRob is asking.

Okay, that was TOO easy! :P A couple of red/blue X's and Shape 3D with a half cylinder map and you have a great start. I got this in a couple of minutes:

Needs more work, but it's a good start. Thanks Ash! :D

I altered the outline to give the "ribbon" some thickness and added nucleotide "rods". It's functional, which is what I needed, but not quite art.

could you please post the settings you used for this helix?

i am trying with the cylinder but so far this is the only thing i get

what should the original image look like?
what are the settings?

I am trying to learn to use PDN, i am no designer but i use it every now and then following tutorials from the forum andd i can say i have achieved good results everytime i had the need to use it, EXCEPT THIS TIME

i just cant make the ribbon keep twilring enough like 3 or 4 turrns on the cylinder or dont know if i must do only one and then make copies and connect them together. anyway i am lost here

Of course a tutorial for the helix that ASH created when S3D was introduced would be also great xD (http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopi ... &hilit=DNA)

Thank youImage

Someone's been reading all my posts?

You need to draw the shape on a new layer, without the white background.
Then run shape3d.
And you will start seeing how.

And to get more "loops" just draw more lines (like: ///// ) for the before image, try different angles for the lines to see which works the best for your needs.

Good luck!

Let me know.
