I was looking at and thinking about glass, ice, refraction, etc...

I still don't know how Ash seems to pull it off so easily (this one took me a lot of semi-random fiddling, and still isn't there yet).

Give it a different background that does not clash and you`ve got a pretty good ice cube. I`m sure you`ll get there eventually with the glass.

Wish I could...the background is about 90% of why you can tell it's glassy/icy. I need to look at some *real* glass objects and figure them out, I think.

As I've told many PDN users... Needs more define edges.

The best part is the top facet of the glass. You should go in that direction.

Most other parts looks hollow...hmmm like something is there but not there.
Once you have the edges down, then it's time for a solid glass cube, and not just a glass box, made with 6 thin glass sheets.
Hint: As in, glass edges distorts the background.

I just realized I haven't visited your gallery. The ice cube is fantastic. I love the shadows and the transparency of it. It's nice!

You talkin' to me or ash, helen?

...assuming you're talking to me, thank you very much :). I'm happy with it as a first attempt, but I have a ways to go before I'll feel it worthy of the moniker "fantastic"...

Some day I'll come up with a recipe for ice...

water and somewhere below freezing works for me <whistling smiley>

I think it's looking good, and at least people have recognised it as an ice cube, must be half the battle ?

Hmm, ice cubes, I'll have to give this one a crack sometime. I think you have the outline down, just need to make it more solid looking. Maybe a cube inside a cube? :-/ I'll have to take a crack at this one some time.
