Hey there,

I saw this photoshop tutorial and though wow.

http://www.rnel.net/tutorial/Photoshop/13255

Now the orb thing is pretty easy but how would we do the rest? I am thinking that with all our know how and the obvious awesomness of PDN that it would be possible to create this image in PDN

So I am hoping that someone would be kind enough to try and "convert" the tutorial into a PDN tutorial.

When i get some time this weekend i might be able to convert it for you it looks like it would be pretty simple to port it over. I already have a tutorial on the block that i am working on but i can give it a go.

Midgetalien, the orb can be done using Helen's glossy ball tutorial. The background, as I suspected, was created by a fractal program. If you haven't done so, you could download Chaoscope or Aphoysis, and play with it until you find the fractal you like. If you are daring, you could create a fractal yourself using nothing but PDN and your imagination.

I havnt downloaded any fractal programmes...so wouldnt know how to use them lol

I like the idea of using PDN to create a fractal......How would i go about that? I'd like to give it a shot and make the picture 100% PDN

MA, love the sig/avvie combo!

Chaoscope is the one I use. Much easier than Apophysis. They do have tutes for both programs.

To use Chaoscope, select your attractor and rendering style (I recommend light since it gives pleasant result every time), press F3 until you find the render you like, and then press F4 to render it completely. Save Image As (it will save it as a bitmap image .bmp), open it in PDN, use alpha mask to separate the image from its black background, duplicate the fractal several time until you can see it like it was before you masked it. Just make sure to have a dark, dark background, otherwise you can lose the fractal.

To make a fractal in PDN, try using Tree Gen plugin, and several different distort method to get the result you want. It require a bit of tinkering and luck to get it.

If I recall correctly, with the Enchanted Snails, I used colour replace to take out the black, duplicated the layer several times, merged, magic wand to select snail, (need to play with tolerance), then on a new layer beneath the snail, black paintbucket fill, the snail shape & merge again.

This way you won't loose the fractal but not stuck with a black background.

Alpha-masking works too. Duplicate the original layer, turn it black and white, copy the image, undo everything, and run alpha mask on the original layer. Dup. it several time with another dark background layer. There's more way to kill a rat anyway.

I always heard that there's more than one way to skin a cat. But oh well... That wasn't very helpful and I apologize.

That wasn't my idea actually, I think it was either Helen or Oma who used it that way, so credit actually goes to them.
