I am wondering if it would be possible to recreate the Spitfire exhaust stubs using S3D or if it would just be better and quicker to do a sketch and scan it , having seen the work Sargon does with S3D i dont think it would be impossible but maybe too time consuming to work it out as i think it would need to be done in two parts...... any thoughts/suggestions apart from the obvious "AFG your on your own son".... :lol2: :lol2:

Yes, S3D and maybe point warp. It will take some tinkering. I'm also thinking if point warp doesn't do the trick, then maybe power stretch.

Mate this is not a regular shape, so S3D can't generat it exactly as it is, but you can "as a beginning" use this XML file on a white square 800 x 800 canvas, then run Polar Transformation plugin with Transform rectangular to Polar option and keep all other setting on default, then stretch the resulted shape with Move Selection tool, as here:

Thanks guys for taking the time to help :) , Sargon the reason i mentioned doing it in two parts was because of the irregular shape, i thought there might be a way to create the box section then the tube section and merge the two (i never even considered the method you have used), then as Lance suggested use power stretch, but i was the same as Goonfella and got no where near it , i sourced the reference picture from Spitfirespares.com, now that is one fascinating site :)

There are some good views of the exhausts as well as the rest of the aircraft here -

http://gregers.7.forumer.com/a/airfix-1 ... 12094.html

I know it`s only a model but there are some excellent close ups. It`s amazing how accurate these models are , not to mention the skill needed to build them. :D

Thanks Goonfellla that has been a great help , the exhaust stubs in the picture i posted are totally different from the model so i think they must be from a later model, although it did state that spitfire stubs were generally shorter so they were most probably from a different type of plane, but now i have a clear picture of what i need :D
