Well, it's on all of our minds, really. How did Ash manage to do that tiger?

There's a pic of it here

Well, he did post a short tutorial on how he created the fur (which is really what makes the whole tiger picture so incredible) here. Beyond that we're talking about doing a pretty serious deconstruction (which I'm up for...anybody else?).

Let's work it this way. Everybody *except* Ash can chime in with ways that we think he probably did it, and once we agree, we all try (individually) to duplicate it and he can tell us if we were even close.

My main trouble spot is in figuring out how he grabbed individual tufts of hair from the sample he showed in the link above.

maybe he took the polar inverted pic and selected sections with the lasso select and pasted them in place and when he got them all into an order he liked her feathered the edges to blond into each other he definitly used alot of layers in that i bet lol

although that would be realy realy time consuming but nothing of ashes looks like it was done quick lol

This is one of the best statements I have seen from PDNers.
It's good to see people are willing to try their own ways to do things.
This is really how we can learn more about PDN, and drawing/art in genaral.
Most people usually just want everything handed to them. :?

And thank you everyone for the kind words. :)

That's pretty much the point of this whole site...we want people to learn how to use PdN and show everyone else what they've learned.

And thank you everyone for the kind words. :)

No problem...you rock.

yeah i think its better that way
thru tutorials you learn the basics but if you work thru problems yourself most of the time you can come up with an easy solution or come up with something completely new u never thought of

anytime ash your one of, if not the best p.n artist out there.
give credit where credit is due

and i the nose looks like it was drawn rotated to the left a bit and motion blured to the upper right while the fur is definitly sectioned off when you get in real close ( my eyes hurt lol) and maybe he drew some of the black fur stripes after words on another layer and gaussian blured it O_o

I'm thinking the eye is a flat image plus shape-3d.

I've heard Ash mention sine waves in many posts, and after some experimentation on other textures, I think that's how he got a patch of fur to look like many different patches.

For the stripes and ear colors, I'm guessing he used an layer of the darker colors that he gaussian blurred with the mode set to overlay.

How about this: we'll wrap our thoughts up tomorrow and summarize what we think, and then you can laugh at us and explain how naive we are :)

I somehow missed your reply :?
Better yet, Why don't all who wish, Use the method in their mind to draw something, simple or hard..doesn't matter.

I forsee there will be some cool and intriguing stuff coming out of this.

This might be an idea for getting more users to this forum.
