I was just wondering how people made dragons. Such as oma and AFG.

Maybe some tips on what to do.

Thanks, Briamoth.

I believe Oma has a whole series of WIP pics from her dragon on her gallery on the official PDN forums.

Have a nice day,

hello my Oma is very sick right now. She was working on a little tutorial but didn't get as far as pictures.

She let me copy the file so far for you. She said to tell you she would fix it up when she is back on her feet.
One thing she didn't write at the top was you need to start with a cloud layer. I think she used orange and brown.

work on a 600 x 800 canvas very important!!!!!!!!

distort> inside out.

HEAD
perspective 1.30 .01
dup layer

perspective 1.66 .09
dup layer

inside out
lyer rotate pan x 0 y .614 zoom 0.35

merge these three together

NOSE
duplicate the head layer

perspective .25 .17 .40
layer rotate pan x 0 y.60
brightnes contrast -20

EYES

To make the outline

duplicate nose layer
inside out
layer rotate pan x .25 y0 zoom .25
oblic .25 minus .52
mirror right over left
move eye layer down below nose

eyeball fill layer
wand inside the eye opening (if you hold down the control key while wand inside one eye then the other both areas will be selected)
add a layer to work on the eyes inside
bucket fill with E2D6CE
move that layer down now below the eye outline

do not deselet

to make the eyeball

with selection still active from the eyeball fill layer
add a layer just above the bucket fill layer
change primary color to black
change brush size to 90
you want to make a paint brush dot (look bottom right of screen ) around 216 318 you need it behind the nose a bit and behind that jut out in the eye outline. This if you are doing it correctly is the left eyeball.
deselect
and then wand the black paint dot you just made

to make pupil

add a layer
change primary to a red and leave the secondary still transparent.
you should have an active selection still in the size and shape of that black dot you made in last step.
lightrays number of rays 130 , o o , lenght of ray 100 , internal radius 29

to add the highlight
add a layer
change color to white primary draw your shiny from black centre out to somewhere in the rays. I used a size 12 paintbrush
true blur at 9

merge time! merge down the white higlight to the pupil, then merge down the pupil to the eyeball
DO NOT MERGE IN THE EYEBALL FILL LAYER.

make sure you have no active selections now hit the deselect button just to be sure.
mirror left over right

lets make the eyebrows

duplicate the nose layer
tube oblique 1.90 0 steps 100 centered
layer rotate 70 70 65 x minus .39 y minus .35
mirror left over right

forehead plate
select a rectangle 3 x 4 inch of the original texture
copy it into a new layer.
align object to top left
inside out

rotate layer angle only rotate minus 45.
adjust brightness down. here I used -45 but you may need to adjust according to which area you selected on your original texture.

first spike middle of head.

make duplicate of forehead plate
flip verticle
pointwrap 150 498 mins 0.36 .047
flip layer horizontal
repeat point wrap

now resize canvas by 150% centre anchor
should be 900 x 1200

rotate layer pan the spike x minus .20 y minus .74
move the layer down below the forehead plate

long neck

take a copy of your original texture
600 x 800

add to new layer in your dragon picture
pull out to cover full canvas
deselect

along neck and belly
perspective
.87 .09 horizontal 1.34

Briamoth I forgot to tell you that was just the dragon that she started with. She has a better example somewhere on her computor and I will see if I can find the file on the weekend. I'm going over to her house on Saturday to help my mom clean and prepare meals for Opa for the week.
