This is a general method of making the fabric, here in this tutorial is showing the basics, you can make your own mask and highlight effect, and your own fabric texture. Sorry it is not well organized, please ask if you have any question or suggestion, thanks:

Super tut Sargon. Really useful. Here is my first go at fabric folds. I started out intending to do just the fabric and ended up making a complete window scene. I forgot to extend the curtain rail across the middle.

Goonie, awesome! Colours work well together & there are those lovely flowers again. I really like the curtains a lot. In fact I'd hand them in my study. Painting on the wall adds a very homey touch.
A very well done comp, even if the rod doesn't go all the way across. You could always add a pelmet? Well done!

AFG, wow! I love the shininess of the fabric & the way thecurtains curve. Slightly metallic look to the (whatcha call those things that hold the curtains back?)
Small suggestion tho, the curtains below the thingies could billow out slightly to give a more realistic look.
In any case, a good job & I'd hang them in my doorway, like a gypsy.

great tut! I'll have to try it out when I've a tiny bit more time. I think this method is very simple to remember. previously I did fabric drapes using the gradiant method ASH showed me ages ago. Its nice to have another version for different situations.

Nice image all of you who tried it, and thanks every ones visit and comment, I think the kind of texture on the fabric is so critical for this technique, a fabric containing straight lines will give a better effect when using the Alpha Displacement that is in my opinion. Looks like Chad is so busy and suffering from this hard tut. Welsh, BTW I can't see Ash for a while, I really missed him, any one has any news about him? Welsh I am not even his neighbors son or grand grand son, he is a way better than me and I did told him that before every time, man some time he does things I can't even imagine how did he do them, his work is fabulous.
