I was just wondering, how do I make something have an outline but no lines around it?
Thanks

Your question is quite vague briamoth. I don't quite understand what you are looking for. is it something like this?

Wondered about that too Chad.
Drop shadow? Set to say 5 on one & -5 on the other?

I meant, say I wanted to make a glass cup and I had the outline of it ,but I didn't want the outline to show in the final piece since, in real life you can't see the outline of an object just the object.
I hope that makes it clearer. Sorry about the previous question, I was in a bit of a rush.

Not sure if this will work for you, but here is how i do it. Start out on a canvas that is ~3 times the size you want to end with. And a new transparent layer. #1 Draw the outline in black lines. As thin lines as you can use." Antialiasing disabled" and blending to "Overwrite" #2 Duplicate layer. Nice to have a backup. (Can be very useful later.) #3 Use fill to put in the colors. #4 Set your primary color transparency to " 0 " And Flood Mode to Global #5 You may have to adjust the tolerance on this. Fill the black lines with the transparent color. WHERE DID IT GO? #6 Use BoltBait's feather plugin to fill the empty space. The last one is a bit tricky, because BB's old plugin actually worked better then the new one. ( This would get me hanged in the main forum) You may have to try with blur etc.. Now you can resize down, if you want to.

You could , of course , just make sure that the outline is on a separate layer. Just select the areas you want to work on then do the work on another layer. When you are finished just hide or delete the layer with the outline.

That would work just as well. ( use that if i want some arrears to be black. ) But i find my method better if it is a more complicated drawing. Less mouse clicks.

I was thinking similar to what goon said but when I've done that before you could see the alias marks on the object.
Thanks, Leif. That is pretty much what I was looking for. I knew it would be somewhat close to that just didn't know the exact process.
Edit: Thanks chad for the rename.

Briamouth, have you tried Sargon's Making a (Drinking) Glass tutorial? It's similar to what you are going for. Edit: In a rush, I forgot to check my spelling.

http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/t ... ntry204049I drew the palm leaf and showed how I colored it with out any outlines showing at the end. maybe this will help you out. ciao OMA PS also in my gallery on paint.net look at the work in progress shots on the hummingbirds feathers. You will see another version of how I draw with no outlines showing.

Re-reading your question, I have come to realize that you are one of the few that would actually benefit from a glass tutorial I had promise I would write. One tip from Ash that I kept dear to my heart: always define your edge in making glass. Take a look again at my 3D jigsaw piece. Do you notice how the edge are viewed even though it's semi-transparent? That is the most important element in pulling off the glass design. One secret I use frequently: when you draw a shape (be it elliptical, oval, or square), rotate it so it has perspective, and then magic wand it. Make a new new layer, move that layer below the shape, and run Selection>Outline. With the new plug-in Trial, it's easier and faster to make an edge. Oh, before I forget, make your top layer (the shape layer) semi-transparent so it looks glassy. After that, you got to play with transparent gradients, blending modes, and opacity. It's actually fun once you get the hang of it.

Got to agree with Leif on this ... the old one was one of the staple plug-ins on all my images ... Now I use dpy's AA plug-in
