My first Tutorial, please be gentle ^^
First of all, You might wanna have BoltBait Plygon/stars plug-in installed. And also some runic/magical symbols fonts as well, you can find them by just googling "Runic Symbols font". You'll find lots of different fonts, but make sure it's TrueTypefont. Here's one of the fonts I used (The only one I remember where I got it from :p)

Anyway, let's get started!

Image
1. It's easier to position the circle if the canvas is a square.
Image
2. Use the bucket to fill the background black.
3. Add new Layer
4. Using the circle-drawing tool, Hold the Shift button and drag the mouse to make a perfect circle.
Image
5. Add new layer.
6. Go to "Effects">"Render">"Polygon/Stars...", Don't be concerned with perfectly fitting the polygon/star to the circle right now. Just make sure it's the right size for now, and choose the shape that looks best.
Image
7. Add a new Layer (You don't have to add new ones if you don't want to, I just find it easier to work with.)
8. Create two perfect circles, one inside the other using shift + drag, to create a crescent moon.
Image
9. I played aroun with the star depth and verticies until I got something close to a sun.
10. Circle-select the "sun" and use the "move selected pixels" tool to drag it to the other side opposite the moon. Rotate it using the right-click mouse drag to rotate and align it to the pattern of the overall circle.
Image
11. Add new layer
12. Write anything using the runic/magic symbols font, Here I wrote "Solara"
13. Rectangle-select the text, drag, and rotate.
14. That's pretty much the basic patterns, just experiment with different symbols, shapes, stars, and circles.
Image
15. After step 14, you might get something like this.
Image
16. Add some glow to each layer. To make it more fun, try playing around with the glow parameters differently for each layer.
17. Use the "Merge Layer down" button on the history window to flatten all layers except for the black background.
Image
18. Go to Layer>Rotate/Zoom, use the globe or the "twist radius" button-thingy to put the circle at an angle; like it's on the ground.
19. Duplicate layer
Image
20. Go to Effects>Blur>Median Blur, and slide on these numbers. (on the bottom layer only!)
Image
21. Go to Adjustments> Levels and slide the middle output cursor all the way down.
Image
22. Go to Effects>Blur>Zoom Blur Deluxe and give'em one of those ^
hmmm, still something missing...
AHA!
Image
23. Hehe, I almost forgot. Use glow on the top layer thusly.
24. That's it! You should have this \/ as your finished product ^^

Hope you enjoyed it C:

Like the art/use of effects and plugins, but as I have said before: Good art, bad topic to base art on.
i rate this 3 stars out of 5.

I thought art was all about expression - and those "rituals" were around before christianity and still in use today cant see the problem with it - take mr hirst - his stuff isnt to my liking but i wouldnt dream of critisizing - i admire anyone who can do anything creative

Here is my stab at it - its not perfect but i'm still learning. If anyone knows a way to do a triquetra symboll that would be great.

Was that aimed at me? Begging your pardon i posted 3 days apart and didnt realise the forum police would pull me up. Until now I thought everyone was lovely and helpful here, which i sometimes find lacking in the main forum - I guess some people just like to pick holes in anything. I will continue to read the tuts and post if i make something half decent but i will skip the BS, ty.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Corona on this one, Chérvil, simply editing the post would not have bumped the topic, meaning most people would miss what ever was posted.

That being said, Corona, we do try to be helpful and nice. I'm sorry you were offended, and I wish I could promise it won't happen again, but I can't. :( being human we make mistakes, have bad days, and post things that we wouldn't otherwise. However we are aiming for a level of politeness above that of the Official Forums, I don't know if we've reached it yet, but it is our goal. :D

If it helps: For future reference, Chérvil isn't the forum police, he's the "Arena Master" meaning he's in charge of the games and contests section. I'm still working out the details of ranks and colors and things like that.

Ben is right and I agree with him.

Corona, I don't believe Chérvil was trying to be rude.
So chill out. The new post was called for in this case.

No fighting or -karma for everyone here :o

Ben, how about blue color name for Chérvil?
Or maybe pink :P :P

Pink...!..how bout the mods get pink!

About corona..if i seemed to be harming, I am extremely sorry. Sometimes I think I'm on a diferent forum that in the rules is not allowed to double post. Just disregard my post. I am very sorry. You all know I would not say anything to someone to hurt them. And if you took that to offense please don't. I was trying to say not to double post --> :) <-- I wanted to be kind about it. I am sorry. If there's anything I can do just let me know.

Hey you want to join this competition going on at iGraphix? You are really good and maybe you could enter, what the heck?

I am very sorry. I feel bad about this whole thing.

Oh and btw, it is a creative tutorial, I'll try it in a sec and post my results.

My apologies to Ben and Chervil, I do find this a great friendly forum and I guess there were just a few over reactions there :) I am new to the forum and to paint.net itself and I dont know how things work and shouldnt presume to think I do.I have learned a lot in my short time using the program and hope to continue doing so with the guidance of all the great tuts and admins. My deepest apologies go to blah for ruining his thread xx.

Apology accepted. And thank you! :D

To fix blah's thread, I could split our little misunderstanding into a separate topic and lock it, any objections?
