I think I am the only dumb person who doesn't know how to install them . I downloaded Simon's custom brushes mini , I have that folder ready and I also downloaded a few brushes but have no clue as to how to get them installed , after I unzip them where do I go from there ? Is there anything else I need to download ? What am I doing wrong ?? Any help deeply appreciated .

If you have instaled the plug-in try this.
If you are using Win XP You put your brushes in : C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Paint.NET User Files\Custom Brushes That is go in to your "My Documents" and find the "Paint.NET user Files" There you find the "Custom Brushes" folder. I don't know the exact path for Win 7 , but it is probably something similar.

First, you'll need to download Abrviewer from SourceForge.net. That will convert all the PS brushes into PNG files so the plugin you use (Simon Brown's custom brushes plugin) can read the file and let you use them.
Second, after you unzip them, open AbrViewer. Where it says load brushes, click on that and it should automatically locate the brushes. Change the thumbnail size to 500.
When it's finished converting, click on Export, and navigate to where your Custom Brushes folder is located, and save them there.

Sokagirl, I don't didn't know how to do it either but thanks to Leif & Lance, I do now.
Not altogether sure how to use them but maybe this is one of those things that I will have to try out - expand my horizons - something Oma tries to encourage in us all.
Hope to see something with your efforts to use the custom brushes soon.
Good on you!

That's strange. I have never encountered that kind of problem.
Hmm...in my experience, whenever I download Photoshop's brushes and finish unzipping the file, I always right-click on the .abr file, and then go to Open With... and then I select the abrviewer. It usually load the brushes right away after a few seconds of converting them.

Could be running out of memory? Other issues I've had in the past is not doing Microsoft updates. Each time I do one I need to do more to fix the fixes.
Shame that. I was keen to see how you go with it.

I had the brushes working on 3Gigs of ram. But it was kind of slow. If you can't make Pant.NET work with brushes, i recomend Artweaver.

What OS are you using? I`m sure I read somewhere that Abrviewer does not work with Win7, although don`t quote me on that , I may be wrong. I have not downloaded it onto the new laptop so far as I have all the brushes I need (at the moment anyway) so I have not tried it myself. I had it working fine in Vista Basic though. You can still use these brushes for now until you have sorted out the problem. They don`t need Abr viewer. Just download and install into the appropriate file. http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopi ... 12&t=23095

Thanks guys , well barbie my updates are always up to date so I know that's not the problem and Goonfella , Custombrush mini is not in the tools menu , there's no add brushes in the tool bar in Pdn either I am so angry and sad at the same time I feel like I'm being ripped off the opportunities of creating something more .. My OS is Windows XP no matter now I give up , I throw in the white towel .. I've tried everything except throwing my computer out the window .. I thank everyone for taking your time to try and help , I'm only sorry for wasting it ..

Sokagirl, don't you give up! I am not going to let you.
Now, just to make sure...have you unzipped the DLL (that is the file needed to run Custom Brush mini), copied, and pasted it into the Effects subfolder? Second, all the custom brushes you downloaded from the main board, are they all in the Custom Brush folders? I have Windows XP so I can walk you through it if you wish.

Sokagirl, please don't think you are wasting our time. You're not. That is what we are here for. Sometimes we just don't "get" things. I do understand your frustration. Unzipping & putting the effects etc into the right folder was a nightmare for me at first too.
Take a deep breath...most likely is that there is a step you are missing.
Lance tried hard to help me with my images because it would send you to the whole Photobucket album & that costs precious download for some & time too. It took about 3 or 4 goes but each time it didn't work for me Lance would correct me & now it's second nature.
It is really hard to be talked through something like that when you cannot see what you should be doing & seeing. Please let Lance help you with this one.
Maybe Lance, if you have time, you could do a tute on this? It would be really useful for a lot of people.

Don't feel bad about having problems with this. The "how to install plugins" tread in the main forum is 47 pages long; so you are NOT the first. If the plugin dose not show up in your tools menu, that is the first issue to address. As Lance said; did you unzip and paste it in to the effects folder? If you are not sure, maybe you could post a screenshot of that folder.

I am going to download a screen capture software so I can show, step by step, what to do. Give me time.
