Thanks so much Barbieq and how funny you should say it's Buddy Holly! I started out trying it to be him and then I noticed, especially when the image was smaller, that it looked a lot like Sylvester Stalone, so I went back and changed the mouth. Perhaps I should change it back? This is so weird! Again, perhaps I should have stayed with my first try, me thinks :?

Well done Pixey :) my immediate reaction looking at the thumb was the same as Barbieq thinking Buddy , although when i enlarged the pic i realised from the mouth it was 'Rocky' , it did take a few minutes of thinking who has that shape off mouth. The whole point of the tut was to show my method of doing portrait with PDN and not 'this is how you do a portrait with PDN' , with the hope others would adapt it to suit their own style...... you have done a great job :)

Of course! The mouth - you are so right! Either way, the image is really superb. Don't change a thing it is great the way it is. The hair & everything else is just brilliant.

@AFG - Many thanks for your comments, professor  It was a very interesting tutorial to attempt and it taught me a lot. I have been amazed at how a flat image can come to life with shading and shape.

@Barbieq - Isn't it so interesting to see that images can look different with size! You were both so spot-on though, with picking up on Buddy, as 99.9% was based on him from the beginning :D

Pixey,

Seeing your image, my first thoughts were of Buddy Holley or Elvis Costello,
only because of the eyeglass frame style.

-------------------------------------------------
I decided to take a stab at this.

This is as far as I got before feeling the need for a hiatus.

Using an image pulled from the interweb as basis.

I particularly like the way you did the eyes & the lips. Good thing about PDN is that we can go back when we feel we are ready. Nothing to tidy up, put away or waiting for paint to dry.

I hope you do add to this one. It has a good foundation.

Hello, pretty face. :lol3: Line art is perfect, and the shading is well done. I notice a nice detail on the lower lib. Nicely done.
And i love that little sun. :cool2:

@Sarkut - gosh, how pretty is the face you have begun! The lips looks very luscious - in fact, they look very kissable  It will be facinating to see the next stage. Well done!
