I personally am divided on the invite issue. I don't actually think its a good idea, but I would really not like this forum to loose the focus of working towards better and better artwork. I really wouldn't like it to degenerate . Its very nice to have newer paint.net users, but the focus may drift from making better pictures to points of how to do basic paint.net techniques. That is what I feel the main forum should be for, and this is more for artistic improvements, and development of improved textures etc. Now if I saw someone doing nice artwork on the main forum, I'd certainly mention to them about this site as well, but lately there haven't been too many interested in more than the alfredo.

I'm already having a hard time viewing all the galleries here, and the ones on Paint.net well lets just say not lots of new artwork lately. It seems loads of chatter and more emphasis on games and alfredo than art on the original site. I'd certainly not like that to happen here.

I'm sure it won't happen if we grow slowly. Its not a matter of we have more members than they do but we have members prepared to work and improve.

ciao OMA

I'm with oma. I feel that this board is for more serious artists than on the main forum. People on here are more focused. I like the Ben's ideas, however.

I agree with Oma. The other forum hasn't had much new art except from the members that are already here. So that forum isn't exactly what it used to be. This forum's goal should to continue to be based on giving each other constructive criticism. The other forum seems to be for those who really can't make anything. "Newbies" as some would call it. That forum is more of an introduction forum whereas this one is for experienced and more serious PDN artists. I want this forum to stay dedicated to art instead of being filled with useless threads about topics that nobody cares about. The off-topic and such are fine but on the other forum there seems to be an overflow of just talk and no art.

This is one thing you said which I do not agree with. I think everyone is capable of doing better art on the other forum. Even the newbies. And yes even the siggy guys show lots of promise. The difference is that in this fourm members challenge themselves to do better and better each picture, and seldom get stuck in a rut. It may seem that sometimes we repeat processess in different pictures but if you watch closely we are refining on past images, gradually working towards harder and more challenging projects. I know the sig people say the same thing but I think larger images tend to require more concentration and effort. I'd love to see everyone ideally try at least to make their own images, better a poorly drawn image than a cut and theft. It just means more when you are trying to be a better artist. This of course doesn't apply to photo manips, there by nature you need to use an outside source. But it would be nice to at least if the ones on the other forum linked or showed us the original. I'm the worst at manips and I would learn something from that.

I know it floors me when someone knocks a tut any of us have made, but ideally I'd love to see the other forum flooded with A++ tuts just to show newbies they can do things. The ones that actually take a tut and change it up intentionally are the ones that really spark my interest. The ones that are adventurous outside their comfort range tend to be the ones I like to help now a days, and those would be the newbies that I would eventually encourage to persue more advanced PDN skills here.

An us and them attitude is not a good one, rather I'd like to see this forum work hand in hand with the other forum. I know its difficult (I've ranted about it numerous times  ) But it would be real bad to start a rivalry, this forum isn't about anyone being better than the other, its just we have similar interests and want to really get to the meat and potatoes on complex images.

ciao OMA

I worded that wrong. I meant that forum is full of those who just seek help on how to make stuff. Don't get me wrong I think everyone has potential, it's just there the users haven't fully met their potential. Over here, I think everyone is an accomplished artist in one way or another. I didn't mean to put the others over there down. I'm just saying what others have said. This forum is for more serious PDN artists. I hope that clarifies any misunderstandings.

I try to work under the attitude if you dont like something then change it.

I try to encourage new ones with tips & praise where possible to encouarage their growth, all of us here do. I think that this is very important. You will get those that don't want to take the good advice on board, either because they dont know how or that is their MO anyway.

I have issued my fair share of challenges to people & that I think me be a factor in the quality of the forum. I think we need to keep trying to help. Of course in everything you will always get the time wasters.

Sage advice from my late mother-in-law: you'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

I think a sub-forum for us to discuss, pass on tips to each other about various plug ins would be a benefit to us all.
I've learnt some wicked things tonight using S3D (even made screenshots of settings  ) that I never thought possible.

There's so many versatile plug-ins that we could make even more use of by using settings others use

edit ... I'd hate to see it as a breakaway. There's too many people over there I respect. Thankfully they're a majority over the ones who hack me off, plain and simple. The nonsense directed @ forbiddenrose in the WOTW really got my goat up today, when I read it ... things like that annoy me over there

Wow, this thread has generated a lot of discussion about the upcoming change. And not to mention, this week, we have seen what, 5 new users being registered with the latest being Zwicky? That's awesome!

I agree with Oma when she said she did not want to have this board to rival the main board. As I recall, the main board is mainly geared toward the support of Paint.NET, development of plugins, and whatnots. I suppose it took on a new dimension with the additional of the Pictorium, and then it just grew from there. I dunno, I had only been using PDN for a year now.

What I am pleased with this board is how we are all geared toward mastering the use of PDN, and then bringing our experience to the main board to help out new users. That's what I had been doing lately, even though I have said I have given up on the main board, but I just can't resist staying away from the main board. I see somebody needing help, and I feel inclined to help out. I guess it's human nature to want to lend a hand to help out, even though it may get bitten once in a while.

Writing two tutorials here has been positive thus far, and I feel good about giving back to the community that has been tremendous help to my skill growth. For that, I thank you all. If there's any way I can be of service, please ask.

Welshy, I glad you spoke up for FrobiddenRose. Many times I've stuck up for someone & got it in the neck for my troubles.

Lance, you did very well writing the tutes.

I am glad that i found this forum it has helped me in so many ways and i am glad to help anyone further their skills. I agree that it shouldn't be invite only because that would make us elitist jerks. I am by no means great at pdn but i enjoy the forums, helping people, and pushing my self to new limits and i really hope that this forum stays true to the ideals. I saw what that guys said about forbidden rose and i wanted to slap him across his head. I really wish apple would take my idea and invent the I-slap that lets you slap someone with a robotic hand across the Internet because some people just need one lol. I kinda lost my cool on the main forum the other day when a new guy posted a tutorial and i was offering help on how he could make it better then he went of on quite an immature rant on how i should appreciate his tutorial, i didn't say that it wasn't good or anything i was just suggesting things that made it better then i got mad and slammed him with a wall of text which i say now i am quite ashamed of i normally don't do that.

oh yeah sorry for the long rant and such i have been really stressed lately. Hope you guys have a great new year!

Welsh, you do know you could have saved the XML file and then loaded it later, don't you?

Believe me ... it's easier for me to take a screenshot

@ barbieq' ... I hate bullies of any form, and will always stand up for the person on the receiving end. I noticed oma had a few words to say and that one person has changed their comments after I posted. To my thinking; there's enough unpleasantness in the world without having to trawl through it when you're meant to be relaxing ... plus it does some egos good to be deflated once in a while
