@Pixey. Your attempt looks really great. Many of you have done really well. I want to encourage all of you to keep practicing this technique. It takes time. My first jewels were nothing like what they look like now and I just kept at it.
Congratulations to all of you.

@PeterPawn - Many thanks, it is a fun tutorial. I do have a question, however. In step 2 you say to use the gradient tool to color the new jewel with black at the top and color of choice at the bottom. I had a problem with that. The first colour goes in well but then, when I try to add the second colour, it changes the previous colour. I even tried a new layer, which shows the new colour in the layers window, but it won't stay put when merged down. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any tips on this.

@Pixey: In the colors dialogue box set the color of your choice for the primary color and black for the secondary color. After selecting the gradient tool drag the mouse from bottom to top whichi will come out correctly. All this is done on one layer. Hope that helps.
