Nothing new here; but I'm slightly confused what the aims of a new board will be.
If it's a breakaway where members will be posting only non-PDN work, what about the people like myself who have only used PDN ... and for the forseeable future only PDN because there's a lot of boundaries I don't think I've stretched yet ? If it's a breakaway where all types of art, created by any programme is to be shown; won't it get a bit repetitive with PDN artworks being shown on both ? Which forum are people going to comment on ? One or both ?
I'm sure we all post images happy for a bit of compliment; but more importantly for the feedback that will hopefully lift that current piece or the next one to the next level. To learn from our mistakes. As someone who's only attempted anything arty the last 14 months, I know I'm grateful for the feedback ...That may not happen as much if people have got artwork on both ? I know it doesn't to my gallery on the main forum, where I only had 7/8 loyal followers of my work and 60% of them are here ... I've posted my best (IMO) there for a while and not one comment, so people may decide not to bother ?
... watching this debate with interest as there aren't that many good digital art forums out there ...

agree with what WelshBlue says. I came over here because I thought this was going to be advanced PDN.

It can still be advanced PDN, but with a section for artwork made with other programs. It`s not often I use Gimp but I do have a few images I would like to share with guys I know will give constructive C&C. It won`t suddenly become a forum for anything else as such- still a PDN forum first and foremost ( and long may it remain so) but with a bit more flexibility picture wise. After all, from what I`ve read on the Official forums up to now there are plenty people with more than one graphics program. I still think anyone who joins will do so because they use PDN , not because they use Photoshop or Gimp or whatever - as long as the name stays the same of course.

Drakaan and Ben, feel free to correct me if I am wrong with what I'm about to say.
Welsh, Oma, and Goon: From following the conversations with Drakaan, Ben, and myself, it just seem that Drakaan wants to incorporate something similar to dA where people post their work using Gimp, PS, and/or PDN. Even Ash says that sometime using GIMP in tandem with PDN can make a powerful combination. It is similar to what I do with the render from Chaoscope and use PDN to further bring out the image. Perhaps that is what Drakaan is aiming for, but I do agree that we need to keep PDN as the first and forefront image editor on this forum.
I know from listening to several posts and a handful of PMs from certain users that sometime it seem anybody using different programs other than PDN is not truly an artists. I think that shows how narrowminded those users can be.

? I never said that people using other programs than PDN were not artists by using them? I said I joined this as an advanced PDN group where my advanced questions could be answered by others using similar program? or where we could work with advanced critique by others familiar with PDN.

Oma , I doubt very much Lance was referring to you in that statement. You are enormously respected by everyone on both forums for the quality of your work.

Sometimes I don't express my thoughts properly (maybe why my nose has been broken a coupla times ) I'm all for people using 'wotever' to produce art and I'll still enjoy looking at it ... but are we talking about a totally separate board or a category of the existing forum ? This is where I'm confused. I guess times move on, but like Oma, it would be great to have a board where advanced critique of PDN projects can carry on.

I guess that what I was thinking aloud about was kind of a "what's next", more than what should be changed here. I've mentioned a bunch of times that I'd like to have something a bit more artist-focused. Not as a *replacement* for these forums, but as kind of the next level.
If you create digital artwork for a while, eventually, you get to the place where you use multiple tools. I acknowledge that, and was thinking that in the future, it'd be nice for artists that had reached that point to have a PDN-friendly place to share things, and have it be more than a basic forum.
For *here*, yes, PDN is the main focus, but I think that allowing people to demonstrate things they've made with additional tools would be a good thing. The more you know, the more you can do.
The challenges, etc, (here) would still be PDN-focused, as well as the tutorials, etc. OMA, you're not wrong in thinking that this particular site is for advanced PDN, at its core.

Very sensibly/nicely put. On those thoughts, my opinion of it is... if it will improve member rates etc, it can't be a bad thing

Oma, I did not mean you in specific. I know that there has been other users who have put down artists on the PDN forum just because they use different tools, as Drakaan pointed out, doesn't minimize the fact that they use PDN as their springboard to create a successful work of digital art. The reason, I will repeat, I came here is to get away from the overcrowded PDN forum, and get advanced feedback from serious minded artists such as yourself and the others who are here. I got tired of having people say, "That's so awesome," and then leave it at that. The only time I get more critique at that forum was when I posted in the realistic image thread, and then when I post it in my own gallery, I got scant comments except from the loyal followers which includes you, Oma. Goon, you were spot on when you said I was not referring to Oma. I respect everybody's work and I can only hope to be half as good as y'all are here. Drakaan, thanks for clearing up your ideas. I don't care what you want to do as long as we are all able to create masterpiece with PDN, GIMP, or artweaver.
