 Post subject: does just coloring count ?

can we ask for help or hints on coloring a sketch in here ? if so can someone color this or gimme a couple tips on how to get the shading done in p.n

You can ask for absolutely anything...no guarantee as to what you'll get, is all.

For example, you could ask for someone to color this in for you, add hair, make it glowing, and place it in an apocalyptic future setting.

You might get someone to actually do that (in which case, you'd be damn lucky), or you might get suggestions on how to do those steps or help with one of those steps.

Looking at the image you posted makes me wish PdN could do gradients on a path (curve a gradient along a line, basically).

Ash's hints are good ones.

I'd duplicate the image into a new layer, up the contrast a ton (so it was dark black lines, no minor detail, and white fill), then use that to make my selection areas and play around with different fills.

Make sure you try radial gradients and linear gradients plus sine wave to get some nice smooth gradient action. Also, do individual parts on different layers and experiment with blend modes (especially multiply, overlay, and screen) to get them to blend in a way that looks good.
