Well, it appears that our upgrade is complete.

As you can see, there's a fair bit of flexibility to be had in skinning a forum (I still need to find out how you get custom themes added).

At some point, we'll have a contest to skin the forums, and we'll try to get that in place, too (visions in my head of a *real* glass forum theme).

Let me know if anything doesn't work right. So far, so good, from what I can see!

This theme matches well with my ava/sig on the official forum...

I'll have to look and see what the default is currently set to...that way you can tell Rick to change it there, so everyone can see your ava/sig in their full splendor, Ash ;)

Tonight, I'm going to go through and install all of the available themes, so users have as much choice as possible (and can see what types of themes can be created).

I'd still like to eventually move things to a paid-for and fully modifiable site, at some point.

I doubt Rick would change it just for me.
And why is the Ava size limited to so small?
And make my name green color plz.

I noticed the same thing myself...it's almost like it's not completely transparent. I see no problem with the white background...I'm using prosilver theme since I didn't liked the black background with white text.

@Ash...I'm sure you may have noticed...your sig has jaggies, but when it's viewed with the white background, there's no jaggies at all. Very odd, really.

@drakaan...while I like some of the newest theme, I couldn't help but feel lost when I'm looking for the control panel. I got to admit some of the designs, while being eye candy, are horribly thought out. Another thing, as Ash mentioned, I would like to know the maximize size of the avatar and signature.

Perhaps there is a need for a revision of the general rule, pictorium guideline, and whatnots and have a direct link in every forums to that one general rule?

I've just set the Avatar max to 120 pixels, minimum is 20 pixels. Max sig length is 600 characters. There are no built in restrictions on sig size, but please keep the images to no more than 500x150 pixels in size. The maximum number of links is currently set to five, though this number could be raised if it becomes necessary.

Ben, just for clarification, the avatar's size limit is 120x120 pixels, yes?

Drakaan, I have noticed several times in several posts your desire to move to a paid-for site. What I would like to know is the paid-for will require some sort of membership fee to have access to the site. What are your thoughts behind having a paid-for site? I can see a couple of things that would help...no more ads (especially from Google...), and the second would be to have a full domain name without any affiliation to freeforums.org. I recall that you are an ASP.NET programmer...perhaps you could put your trade to a good use by coding a site completely out of ASP. I'm curious to know your thoughts.

Correct.

Initially when the forums were switched over it was set to the default value of 100x100 pixels, but I seem to recall that it was set to 120x120 pixels in the old forum, so that is what I set it to here.

Absolutely not. I'd accept donations, but would never have a paid-entry fan site.

Well, firefox and adblock plus have made the ads a non-issue for me (I don't see them, and they no longer slow me down). Freeforums has a few upgrades that you can buy (including your own domain name), but I don't know if I'd want to do that. Whenever the time comes to move, I'll pay for advanced hosting, so I can get a backup, and then import that into whatever gets built.
I recall that you are an ASP.NET programmer...perhaps you could put your trade to a good use by coding a site completely out of ASP. I'm curious to know your thoughts.

That's pretty much my plan. Something between deviant arts and a bulletin board is my general idea. The main issue at that point will be time. It's relatively easy to use asp.net to create a bulletin board and set up authentication, etc, but I'm not sure what the site should do.

I know one thing I'd like (which should be possible) is to allow uploading of .pdn files and displaying them as images (auto-create a thumbnail on upload).

I'm going to start a new topic for discussion on the subject (including the prices for things on freeforums, how to donate, etc).

Can the ava size be 160x120 like the official forum? So lazy Ash don't have to make adjustments?

I agree with Ash. Same size avs as the official forums would mean we could use the same one for both .
